Our Primary section is a wonderful place where children come happily to school in the mornings and leave with a smile on their face at the end of the day, having made tremendous progress in their learning.
The Primary Years Curriculum
The CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM provides us with a curriculum framework of essential elements — the knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action with which young learners (aged 4.5 – 11 years) need to equip themselves for successful lives, both now and in the future. We work with these five elements to construct a rigorous and challenging primary curriculum that is engaging, relevant, and significant. The curriculum at ISCS follows a year by year planning structure where subjects are taught in an integrated way.
Our PRIMARY curriculum is:
Inquiry-based: Our teaching methods build on learners’ individual knowledge and interests, and emphasise learning how to learn and how to find out. Our curriculum incorporates local and global issues, asking learners to consider the links between themselves and their environment.
Integrated: The subject areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Information, Communication and Technology, Art, Physical Education, Music, Global Perspectives, Drama and German are taught through transdisciplinary themes in order to help students make connections between the subjects, thereby facilitating more effective learning. A unique feature of our curriculum includes natural, immersive use of our local language, German, in classroom situations and specialist sessions like music.
Individualised: Around the CAMBRIDGE PRIMARY framework we have developed a detailed program reflecting the diverse composition of our school population and capable of being tailored to the needs of each individual student.
