The Private Gymnasium is a unique programme developed by ISCS as another pathway to university. It consists in doing 2 years of IGCSE where students will take three subjects instead of the usual eight in 2 years, followed by the usual three subjects in A Levels during the two last years.
Subjects in IGCSE include English, Mathematics, and one elective subject of choice. In regards to the A levels, the minimum subjects are A-level German and two elective subjects of choice.
This programme is specially targeted at students who:
  • have studied in the Swiss local system until the 3rd of Sekundarscule 1 and do not want to or cannot access Swiss Gymnasium Local System.
  • Are in the IB curriculum, having completed Middle Years Programme (minimum until M4), and do not want to or cannot access the IB Diploma.
With our programme, students will be able to attend both Swiss Universities, which require three IGCSEs and three A Levels, and International Universities, which require three A Levels.

We are fortunate to use the incredible sports facilities in our local area and maintain our link with the local community. These include the Sportplatz Röhrliberg sports hall, track and swimming pool, the local wanderweg trails, Puregym, Seeweg Baadi and the football club SC Cham.

Students have many opportunities to mix with other year groups in the school year and all students are part of a linear House Team that includes students from each Year group. We encourage mixed participation through a variety of activities such as Inter-house competitions each half term, after-school clubs & workshops as well as International Sports Fixtures in the local area. Students play sports and socialise at break and lunchtimes. Our ethos is inclusive and family orientated.

We have the benefit of small class sizes, which means we are able to tailor our teaching and learning to our students.

We pride ourselves on preparing our students to be confident communicators who are able to access the English Curriculum. The British Teachers who make up our English department deliver a combination of the skills of Language and of Literature. Our specialist EAL provision is part of the school day as timetabled lessons and we strive to deliver a cohesive approach where language acquisition skills are evident across the subject areas.

I joined ISCS after attending a local school. I wanted to obtain IGCSEs and A-Levels qualifications, which I know open door to the best universities here in Switzerland and abroad. At ISCS I really enjoy the relaxing atmosphere: the teachers are approachable and supportive, and my fellow students are really friendly. My favourite subjects are PE, Business and History. In the future I would like to study Business and work in the sport industry, because it combines all my personal interests and Switzerland is home to world’s largest sporting organisations.

I decided to join ISCS 3 years ago, after attending a local school,

because my dream is to study abroad. At a recent University Fair, I spoke to representatives from a university in Canada, where I would like to study Business & Marketing.

ISCS is a great place to learn:  the small classes make the teaching focused on us, everyday we have opportunities to spend time with the teachers one-on-one and get constant feedback on our work. In order to gain leadership and business experience, I am a member of the Student Council, Student NGO and several school committees. I feel everyone at ISCS is very supportive and welcoming. Apart from the academics, I really enjoy the social activities organised by the school, such as hikes, or visits to universities.

I joined ISCS five years ago and have since earned IGCSEs and As-Level qualifications. I particularly enjoy the family feel of the school: a combination of small classes, dedicated teachers and friends from all over world. I enjoy being a member of the Student-led NGO and working on a community project as part of the ISCS Leadership Programme. Last year, I took part in the student exchange programme at our sister school in Spain, where I had the opportunity to practice Spanish and make new friends, while following the same curriculum as ISCS.

In the future I would like to study in the USA. However, I still can’t decide between engineering or medicine.

When asked what I like about ISCS, I always say THE TEACHERS! The set high expectations for us and support us every step of the way.

After joining last year from a local school, ISCS very quickly felt like a second home. This family atmosphere means I always feel free to discuss my ideas, ask for feedback or help. My passion is art and with the help of the teachers, I am exploring a variety of options for a career, including design. I know the Cambridge International qualifications will allow me to pursue further study anywhere in the world and learn from the best. I am excited for what the future holds.
