In Primary we follow the Cambridge International Curriculum which is based on the British National Curriculum. The curriculum favours a practical and creative approach and encourages children to understand how their skills can be applied to real-life situations.

Pupils are taught by native speaking, British-trained form teachers for subjects, including English, Mathematics, Science, Global Perspectives, Computing and PSHE. Pupils receive lessons from specialist teachers in Physical Education, Performing Arts and German.  At the end of Key Stage Two, Year 6 pupils take the Cambridge Checkpoint Tests

Life at ISCS-The British School of Zug is full of excitement and wonder. We are a community and have a very family orientated feel. We ensure each and every student is catered for and we pride ourselves on being student centered. Our curriculum is engaging whilst having high expectations and the small class sizes allow us to truly know your children through and through. Our teachers come from far and wide, from all areas of the globe and are inspiring and motivational in their approach to teaching and learning.

This varies depending on the age group and involves a combination of formative and summative assessments.

In EYFS, children are assessed through teacher observation and upon their response to set challenges and tasks.

In Years 1-6, children are assessed informally throughout lessons by their teachers, who use this knowledge to plan the child’s next steps and lessons accordingly.

Formal assessments include;

  • (Years 1 and 2) termly phonics assessment to check their reading progress.
  • (Years 1-6) Written maths assessments, appropriate to children’s age and ability.
  • (Years 1-6) Weekly spelling quizzes
  • Homework completion

We have the benefit of small class sizes, which means we are able to tailor our teaching and learning to our students.

We pride ourselves on preparing our students to be confident communicators who are able to access the English Curriculum. The British Teachers who make up our English department deliver a combination of the skills of Language and of Literature. Our specialist EAL provision is part of the school day as timetabled lessons and we strive to deliver a cohesive approach where language acquisition skills are evident across the subject areas.

German is a core subject in our school as we believe that all students should be able to communicate and integrate in their own community.

Students have many opportunities to mix with other year groups in the school year and all students are part of a linear House Team that includes students from each Year group. We encourage mixed participation through a variety of activities such as Inter-house competitions each half term, after-school clubs & workshops as well as International Sports Fixtures in the local area. Students play sports and socialise at break and lunchtimes. Our ethos is inclusive and family orientated.

We are fortunate to use the incredible sports facilities in our local area and maintain our link with the local community. These include the Sportplatz Röhrliberg sports hall, track and swimming pool, the local wanderweg trails, Puregym, Seeweg Baadi and the football club SC Cham.

Class Dojo:

In primary, this is the main way of communication between parents and teachers. Throughout the school day, teachers will upload pictures/videos of class progress and parents are welcome to contact teachers through this platform anytime during the school day.

Open morning:

Parents are encouraged to come to school for open mornings, in which they can partake in class with their son/daughter and observe class dynamics and your child's progress.
